RankingsConformation RankingsTop Ten All-Breed statistics are based on dogs defeated in Best of Breed and Group competition. AKC TopDogs reports for the previous calendar year are the source for the All-Breed rankings.Top Ten Breed statistics are based on dogs defeated in breed-only Best of Breed and Best of Opposite competition. The AKC Awards books for the previous calendar year are the source for the Best of Breed rankings, and include Best of Opposite points. The Best of Opposite Sex rankings are calculated as follows: Number of GSMDs in competition of the same sex, minus one. If Best of Opposite Sex is a class entry, the number of class animals of the same sex, plus the number of Specials of the same sex, minus one. Should the Best of Opposite Sex defeat the Best of Winners, then both sexes of class entries are counted, plus the number of Specials of the same sex, minus one. Award of Merit: GSMDs receiving an Award of Merit at the GSMDCA National Specialty will receive 5 points less than the winner of Best of Opposite Sex. The Bred-By-Exhibitor Awards recognize the dog and the bitch that accumulate the most points by going Winners Dog (WD) or Winners Bitch (WB) from the Bred-By-Exhibitor (BBE) class. A point is received for each Swissy defeated on the day the dog or the bitch wins WD or WB from the BBE class. A Swissy can only receive points while they are competing for their Championship. Points run through the Calendar year Obedience RankingsGSMDCA Obedience Awards SystemEach year, Top 5 Ranking Lists and Top Obedience Winners will be designated by the GSMDCA Obedience Committee based on data obtained from the AKC Records Department. The top 5 scoring dogs will be identified in Novice A, Open A , Open B, Utility A, & Utility B. Novice B will be divided into two different lists: a Novice B#l list for dogs that earn the CD title in a given year and a Novice B#2 list for dogs competing in Novice B in a given year who already have earned a CD title. A Novice B dog will be limited to only one of the Novice B lists in a given year. A dog that has a CD title and subsequently earns 3 or more additional qualifying scores in a given year will automatically be considered for placement on the Novice B#2 list and not the Novice B#l list. For dogs earning a title in any given year, an average score based on the first three qualifying scores associated with earning the CD, CDX or UD titles will be used. For dogs that have already earned the CD, CDX, or UD title, an average score will be based on the total number of qualifying scores in that class earned subsequent to the title during a given year, with a minimum requirement of 3 qualifying scores required. All dogs listed in the "Top 5 Rankings" and the "Top Obedience Winners" will be recognized at the annual Awards Banquet."An important note about why are system includes two Novice B lists. When AKC changed the rules for Novice B in 1998 to where it no longer has the "60 day limit" for being able to continue to compete after earning a title (like is still true for Novice A, Open A and Utility A), an advantage was created for "experienced" dogs and handlers to dominate any Novice B rankings list over dogs that has just earned a Novice B CD title. Thus our committee created two lists for Novice B: one for dogs that earned a title and one for dogs that have continued to compete in Novice B for weeks, months, or even years after having earned their Novice B CD. This is a unique feature of our awards system and should help to encourage many Swissy owners to enter that Novice B ring and earn a title or just to keep competing in this particular obedience class. Rankings for 2002 is the first set of rankings available under this new system. Owner Handled RankingsThe purpose of this ranking is to recognize the achievements of owner handlers in the GSMDCA and to encourage more owners to handle their dogs. Top Ten combined (dogs and bitches), dog and bitch points to be tabulated according to the system presently in place for the GSMDCA Top Ten ranking system (breed points and all-breed points). Points counted toward this ranking are points earned when the dog/bitch is handled by its owner(s). The dog/bitch must be shown by its owner for the entirety of a show/cluster in order for points to count towards Owner Handled Top Ten. Professional handlers are not eligible for the Owner Handled Top Ten ranking. Each dog or bitch in the Owner Handled Top Ten will receive a certificate from the GSMDCA as well as a grooming towel with the year and GSMDCA Owner Handled Top Ten embroidered on it. These rankings will be first awarded for the year 2005 at the 2006 National Specialty Awards Banquet. Paperwork for the Owner Handled Top Ten tabulation is the responsibility of the owner to send to the GSMDCA Statistician by March 1st of the following year. |
