BREEDER REFERRAL

To the User of the GSMDCA Breeder Directory,

The GSMDCA Breeder Directory is a service offered to the GSMDCA breeder members who choose to participate and as a courtesy to anyone looking for a breeder of Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs. The GSMDCA and its Officers do not recommend, guarantee, endorse, nor rate breeders, their kennels, or their breeding stock. We also do not examine individual dogs. Users of this directory beware in all instances.

The GSMDCA accepts listings from GSMDCA members for their establishments in good faith. Users of the Directory should be certain to check all matters relating to registration, health claims, awards, or certificates, Swissy quality (adult, puppy or otherwise), stud dog or puppy agreements with the breeders, sellers, or stud owners before making any decision.

The GSMDCA strongly recommends any buyer and seller enter into all agreements in writing with all terms clearly defined.

The GSMDCA and its Officers assume no responsibility for the quality, temperament, or health of any dog, nor the warranty, guarantee, integrity, honesty, or reliability, either expressed or implied, by any person whose name appears on this list. All such warranties, guarantees, and promises are between buyer(s) and seller(s) as individuals.

The GSMDCA promotes and expects fairness in all buyer-seller relationships. Listings are only accepted from GSMDCA members who have been full members for a minimum of 2 consecutive years and are in good standing.

Breeders who advertise in the GSMDCA Breeder Directory pledge to preserve the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog through careful and thoughtful selection of purebred, CHIC health tested, and healthy breeding stock which adheres to the AKC breed standard

Recommended health testing for the Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs used for breeding includes hips, elbows, shoulders, and eyes. Proper completion and submission of the test results can be verified by CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) at ofa.org. CHIC assigns a CHIC number to all dogs who have completed and submitted these tests. The CHIC number will be published on their website. While the assignment of a CHIC number DOES NOT mean that the dog has passing health clearances, it does indicate that all recommended breed specific testing has been done and the results are publicly available.

In addition, breeders who choose to be listed in the Breeder Directory agree to:

  1. Disclose all health testing results to potential and actual buyers.
  2. Maintain a safe, healthy environment for all breeding stock and puppies.
  3. Sell directly to the public, avoid placing dogs through pet stores, brokers, auctions, or raffles.
  4. Carefully screen buyers to ensure the buyer has the knowledge, environment, facilities, and ability to properly care for the animal.
  5. Support puppy buyers and be willing to take back sold animals at any point in their lifetime.
  6. Disclose to buyers complete information and details, answering questions honestly and completely.
  7. Register all breeding stock and litters with the AKC (foreign members excluded)
  8. Microchip puppies/dogs prior to placement.
  9. Sell puppies/dogs on contract to protect both breeder and buyer and enforce spay/neuter when contractually obligated.
