Genetic Diversity Project Entry Form
Sampling of 100 GSMDs will be completed during the research phase of the GSMD Diversity Project to generate the baseline data to measure the overall diversity within the breed. In order to start with the most diverse sample possible of breeding dogs, the requirements for initial phase entry are:
- GSMD is intact and is currently being used or is planned to be used in a breeding program.
- GSMDs from around the world are encouraged to enter. Membership in the GSMDCA is not a prerequisite.
- Only 2 GSMDs per kennel name accepted for entry in this initial phase. Owners should ideally check with their breeder prior to entry. However, if not possible, owner can submit entry without prior breeder contact.
- The 2 entries (per kennel name) should be as different pedigree wise as possible, with no like relatives in the first generation and if possible the second generation.
- All breeding dogs imported from outside of North America, currently living in the United States or Canada, are encouraged to enter. These entries are separate from the 2 GSMDs per kennel name requirement.
The initial phase entries will be compiled and reviewed by the GSMDCA Health Committee (HC) to determine the most diverse selection to make up the research sampling of 100 GSMDs. There is no cost to enter your GSMD in the initial entry on this page, which will be reviewed by the HC. Once the HC has selected the 100 GSMD for the research phase, owners will be contacted via email and provided a link to purchase the genetic test through BetterBred. The cost of the genetic test kit and subsequent testing is $50, with the owner paying $25 and the GSMDCA Health Fund paying the remaining $25. Please understand that not all GSMDs entered here for consideration will be selected to take part in the research phase. However, once the research phase is completed, entry will be open to all GSMDs to participate in the GSMD Genetic Diversity Project.
